In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. Qaf. [These Arabic letters symbolize the Arabic letters of which the Quranic text is composed.] By The Glorious Quran.
2. They [i.e., disbelievers] wonder that a Warner [from among them] has come to them, so they say, “This is something strange.”
3. “When we die and become dust, [shall we be resurrected]? Such a return is rather impossible.”
4. We [i.e., Allah] know what the earth takes of their dead bodies, and We have a preserved Record [of Decrees].
5. They have belied the truth [i.e., The Quran] when it has come to them, so they are in a very confused state.
6. Have they not looked at the heaven above them and [seen] how We have built and ornamented it [with stars], with no cracks in it?
7. And We have spread out the earth and established mountains in it and grown in it all kinds of lovely plants,
8. As a proof and reminder to everyone who turns [to Allah] in repentance.
9. And We send down from the sky blessed water, with which We produce gardens and grain to be reaped,
10. And tall date-palms with well- arranged clusters,
11. As a provision to mankind. And with [that] water We give life to a dead land. Such is resurrection [of the dead].
12. Before them [i.e., these pagans of Makkah], Noah’s people, the dwellers of Rass, and Thamud belied [Messengers].
13. So did ’Ad, Pharaoh, Lot’s people,
14. The dwellers of the Wood, and the people of Tubba’. All of them belied their Messengers. So My threat came to be true.
15. Were We tired with the first creation? No, but they are in doubt of the new [i.e., second] creation [i.e., Resurrection].
16. And We have created man, and We know even what he whispers to himself. And We [through angels] are closer to him than his jugular vein.
17. [Remember] the two receivers [angels]: one on the right [recording good deeds] and one on the left [recording evil deeds].
18. No word is spoken [by a person] but recorded by a careful watcher [i.e., an angel recording one’s deeds].
19. And now the stupor of death has really come. That is what you have tried to avoid.
20. And the Trumpet will be blown [on the Day of Resurrection]. That is the Day of which you were warned.
21. And every person will come with an angel to drive him and with another to bear witness.
22. [It will be said to a disbeliever or sinner,] “You were careless about this [Day]. And now We have removed your covering, so your sight is very sharp this Day.”
23. And his companion [angel] will say, “This is his record ready with me.”
24. [Allah will say to the angels,] “You both throw in Hell every obstinate disbeliever,”
25. “Hinderer of good, transgressor, doubter,”
26. “Who set up another god with Allah, so you both throw him in the severe torment.”
27. His devil companion will say, “O our Lord! I did not set him astray, but he himself was far astray.”
28. Allah will say [to the sinner and his devil], “Do not dispute before Me. I had already sent you the threat [through My Messengers].”
29. “My judgment cannot be changed, and I never wrong anyone.”
30. [Remember] the Day when We say to Hell, “Are you filled?” And it says, “Are there any more?”
31. And Paradise will be brought near to the pious on a near Day [i.e., the Day of Resurrection].
32. [It will be said to them,] “This is what you were promised, for those who sincerely repent [to Allah] and who keep up their covenant [with Allah],”
33. “And who fear the Most Gracious [i.e., Allah] when seen by none except Allah, and who meet Allah [on the Day of Judgment] with a pure obedient heart.”
34. “Enter it [i.e., Paradise] in peace. This is the Day of Eternity.”
35. They will have in it whatever they desire, and We have more and more [for them].
36. And how many a generation [of beliars] We have destroyed before them [i.e., Arab pagans], who were very much stronger than they. And they ran away in the land seeking refuge, but is there an escape [from Our punishment]?
37. In that there is truly a reminder for him who has a heart or listens and understands.
38. And We created the heavens and the earth and what is between them in six days, without getting tired [as claimed by some disbelievers].
39. So be patient, [O Muhammad], with what they [i.e., disbelievers] say, and glorify your Lord before sunrise and before sunset.
40. And glorify Him during the night and after every prayer.
41. And listen when the caller calls from a near place.
42. The Day when they [i.e., all people] will hear the Cry in truth. That is the Day of coming out [from graves].
43. Verily, it is We Who give life and cause death, and to Us will be the final return [of all].
44. On the Day when the earth will crack, they will come out [from graves] so quickly. That gathering is easy for Us.
45. We know best what they [i.e., disbelievers] say, and you, [O Muhammad], are not to force them [to believe]. You are only required to remind, by The Quran, those who fear My threat.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. By [winds] that scatter [dust, seeds, clouds, heat],
2. And by [clouds] that carry water,
3. And by [stars] that easily and regularly run [in their orbits],
4. And by [angels] who distribute [provisions] in obedience to Allah’s Commands,
5. Verily, what you are promised [i.e., Resurrection] is true,
6. And Judgment [by Allah] is also true.
7. And by the heavens of glory and beauty,
8. You [i.e., disbelievers] are certainly of confused [self- contradictory] speech.
9. Those who belie it [i.e., The Quran] are turned away from it.
10. Cursed are the liars,
11. Who are heedless [of the Hereafter] and lost in their disbelief.
12. They ask, “When is the Day of Judgment?”
13. [Let them remember] the Day when they will be punished in the Fire.
14. Taste your punishment which you used to hasten.
15. Verily, the pious will be in Gardens and Springs [in Paradise], 16. Receiving joyfully what Allah has granted them. Verily, before that [in the worldly life] they were good- doers.
17. They used to sleep a little in the night [engaged in prayer],
18. And in the pre-dawn hours they used to ask [Allah] for forgiveness,
19. And they used to give [in charity] from their own wealth to the beggar and the needy.
20. And in the earth there are Signs for those who have faith with certainty.
21. And in your own selves, do you not see [the Signs of Allah]?
22. And in the heaven there is your provision and what you are promised.
23. By the Lord of the heavens and the earth, it [i.e., the Day of Resurrection] is as true as the fact that you can speak.
24. Has the story of Abraham’s honored guests reached you?
25. They [i.e., three angels looking like handsome men] came in to him [i.e., Abraham] and said, “Peace.” He answered, “Peace. You are unknown to me.”
26. Then he turned fast to his family and came back with a fat [roasted] calf.
27. And he placed it near them and said, “Will you eat?”
28. [When they did not eat,] he became afraid of them. So they said, “Do not be afraid.” And they gave him the glad news of a learned son.
29. And his wife came forward with a cry, smote her face, and said, “[I am] a barren old woman.”
30. They [i.e., the angels] said, “Such is what your Lord said.” He is indeed the All-Wise, the All- Knower.
31. Abraham said [to them], “Why are you here, O messengers?”
32. They replied, “We have been sent [by Allah] to a people who are criminals [i.e., the people of Lot],”
33. “To send upon them stones of clay,”
34. “Marked by your Lord for these transgressors.”
35. So We brought out from there all the believers,
36. And We found there no household of Muslims except one [i.e., Lot and his daughters].
37. And We have left there a Sign [i.e., the Dead Sea or Lot’s Lake] for those who fear the painful torture [of Allah].
38. And in Moses [there is a Sign too], when We sent him to Pharaoh with a clear proof.
39. But he [i.e., Pharaoh] turned away [in arrogance] and said, “He is a magician or a madman.”
40. So We took him [i.e., Pharaoh] and his hosts and drowned them in the sea, for he was to blame.
41. And [there is a Sign] in ’Ad also, when We sent upon them a destructive wind,
42. Which spared nothing that it reached, and turned everything into rotten ruins.
43. And [there is also a Sign] in Thamud, when they were told, “Enjoy yourselves for a while.”
44. But they rebelled against the Command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking,
45. And thus they could not rise up, and they could not even ask for help.
46. And We destroyed the people of Noah before, for they were a disobedient people.
47. And the heaven We did construct with Our Power, and We are truly extending it more and more widely.
48. And the earth We have spread out. And what an excellent Spreader We are!
49. And of everything We have created a pair so that you may remember.
50. So place your trust in Allah. Surely, I am a clear Warner for you of Him.
51. And do not take another god with Allah. Truly, I am a clear Warner for you of Him.
52. Similarly, no Messenger came to those before them but they said [about him], “A magician or a madman.”
53. Did those [disbelievers of the past] pass it [i.e., magician or madman] to these [disbelievers of the present]? No, but all of them are transgressors.
54. So turn away from them ; you are not to be blamed,
55. And remind ]people [, for reminding does benefit believers.
56. I have not created jin and humans but to worship Me.
57. I do not want from them a provision, nor do I ask them to feed Me.
58. Verily, Allah is the All- Provider, the Owner of Power, the Most Strong.
59. Verily, these wrong-doers have sins like the sins of those before them, so they are not to ask Me to hasten [their punishment, which will certainly come].
60. So Woe to those who disbelieve from their Day which they have been promised [i.e., the Day of Resurrection]!
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. By the Mount,
2. And by a Book written,
3. On unrolled parchment,
4. And by Al-Bayt Al-Ma’mour [i.e., a Ka’bah in the seventh heaven visited by angels parallel to the Ka’bah at Makkah],
5. And by the raised heaven,
6. And by the prevented sea,
7. Truly, the torment of your Lord is to come,
8. And nothing can stop it,
9. On the Day when the heaven will shake in a terrible way,
10. And the mountains will go into dust,
11. Then woe that Day to liars,
12. Who play in falsehood!
13. On that Day they [i.e., disbelievers] will be driven to the Fire of Hell.
14. [And it will be said to them,] “This is the Fire which you used to deny.”
15. “Is this magic or do you not see?”
16. “Taste it [i.e., the Fire]. Whether you are patient with it or not, it is all the same for you. You are only recompensed for what you used to do.”
17. Truly, the pious will be in Gardens and Delight [in Paradise],
18. Pleased with what their Lord has granted them, and their Lord has saved them from the torment of Hell.
19. [It will be said to them,] “Eat and drink happily for what you used to do.”
20. They will recline [comfortably] on arranged thrones, and We shall marry them to lovely females with lovely eyes.
21. As for those who believe and who are followed by believing offspring, We shall make their offspring join them [in their higher rank in Paradise], without decreasing their reward in the least. Every person is accountable for his evil deeds.
22. And We shall provide them with fruit and meat as they desire.
23. In Paradise they will drink [a kind of] wine with no vain talk or sin.
24. They will be served by their boy-servants, who look like hidden pearls.
25. And some of them [in Paradise] will come closer to some, talking.
26. They will say, “We were indeed among our families [in the worldly life] afraid [of the Day of Judgment.]”
27. “But Allah has been gracious to us and saved us from the torment of the Fire.”
28. “We used to invoke Him. He is certainly the Most Courteous, the Most Merciful.”
29. So remind [them, O Muhammad]. By your Lord’s Grace, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman.
30. Or do they say, “He is a poet. Let us wait for his death.”?
31. Say [to them], “Wait. I am surely waiting with you.”
32. Or do their minds command them of this or are they obstinate?
33. Or do they say, “He has fabricated it [i.e., The Quran].”? No, they, in fact, do not believe.
34. Let them bring something like it [i.e., The Quran], if they are truthful.
35. Or were they created from nothing or are they the creators?
36. Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, but they have no sincere faith.
37. Or do they have the treasures of your Lord? Or are they in control of everything?
38. Or do they have a ladder which they climb up to listen [to angels]? Then let their listener bring his clear proof.
39. Or does He have only daughters and have you sons?
40. Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask a wage [for your Message] and thus they are burdened with debt?
41. Or do they know and record the Unseen?
42. Or do they intend a plot, while those who disbelieve are, in fact, the ones plotted against?
43. Or do they have a god other than Allah? Glory is to Allah above what they take as partners [with Him].
44. And if they [i.e., disbelievers] were to see pieces of the heaven falling [on their heads], they would say [in denial and arrogance], “[These are nothing but] accumulated clouds.”
45. So leave them, [O Muhammad], until they meet their Day, when they will faint [with the horror of the Day of Resurrection],
46. The Day when their [previous] plots will not benefit them in the least, and nor will they be helped.
47. And, verily, for wrong-doers, there is another punishment [i.e., in the worldly life and in the grave]. Yet, most people do not know.
48. And wait with patience for your Lord’s decision. You, [O Muhammad], are certainly under Our Care, and glorify your Lord whenever you get up [from sleep].
49 And glorify Him in the night [i.e., in the night prayers] and before stars set [i.e., in the pre-dawn prayer].
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. By the star when it falls down,
2. Your companion [i.e., Muhammad] has not gone astray, nor has he erred.
3. And he does not speak according to his desires.
4. He only conveys what is revealed to him [from Allah].
5. He [i.e., Muhammad] has been taught by a strong angel [i.e., Gabriel],
6. With his beauty and strength, then he rose.
7. And he [i.e., Gabriel] was in the highest horizon,
8. Then he approached and became nearer and nearer,
9. Until he was at a two bows’ distance or even closer.
10. And then Allah revealed to His slave [i.e., Muhammad] what He revealed [through Gabriel].
11. The heart [of the Prophet] did not belie what he saw.
12. Why do you then doubt what he [i.e., Muhammad] sees?
13. And he [i.e., Muhammad] saw him [i.e., Gabriel] another time [on the Night of Ascent],
14. At Sidrat-al-Muntaha [i.e., a lote-tree at the seventh heaven],
15. Near which the Paradise of Abode is,
16. When the lote-tree was covered with what it was covered with [i.e., angels glorifying their Lord].
17. The sight [of Muhammad] did not turn aside, nor did it go beyond its limits.
18. He saw of his Lord’s Greatest Signs.
19. Have you [i.e., Arab pagans] then thought of [your] Allat and Al- Uzza,
20. And Manat, the other third, [i.e., three idols worshipped by Arab pagans before Islam]?
21. Are males for you and females for Him?
22. Such a division is quite unfair.
23. They [i.e., the names of idols] are only names invented by you and your fathers, with no authority sent down for it by Allah. They [i.e., pagans] follow nothing but a guess and what they desire, whereas the guidance has come to them from their Lord.
24. Or will man get what he wishes?
25. To Allah [only] belong the Hereafter and the first [life].
26. And how many an angel there are in the heavens and the earth, whose intercession will not be accepted except after Allah allows whomever He wills and He is pleased with.
27. Verily, those who do not believe in the Hereafter give angles female names,
28. But they have no knowledge of it; they only follow a guess. And, indeed, a guess cannot replace the truth.
29. So turn away, [O Muhammad], from those who turn away from Our Reminder [i.e., The Quran] and who do not desire but the life of this world.
30. That [i.e. loving the first life only] is what they have of knowledge. Verily, your Lord knows best who goes astray away from His [straight] path, and He knows best who is guided.
31. And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. And He shall recompense evil-doers for what they have done, and reward good-doers with what is best [i.e., Paradise],
32. Who avoid the major sins and illegal sexual intercourse, except minor sins. Truly, your Lord is of Wide Forgiveness. He knows you best when He created you from earth [i.e., Adam] and when you were embryos in your mothers’ wombs. So do not describe yourselves as pure, for He knows best who are the pious.
33. Have you, [O Muhammad], seen him who has turned away [from guidance],
34. And has given [in charity] a little and then has stopped?
35. Does he have the knowledge of the Unseen and thus he knows [that his charity will make him poor]?
36. Or is he not told of what is in the Scriptures of Moses,
37. And of Abraham, who fulfilled [all that he was commanded to do]?
38. [It is mentioned in those scriptures] that no one will burden the sin of another,
39. And that no one will get except for what he earns [good or bad],
40. And that his work will be seen,
41. And that he will be fully recompensed for it,
42. And that to your Lord is the return [on the Day of Resurrection],
43. And that He is the One Who has created laughter and weeping,
44. And that He is the One Who gives life and causes death,
45. And that He is the One Who has created the pair, a male and a female,
46. From a drop of semen when it is emitted,
47. And that He shall make the other creation [on Resurrection],
48. And that He is the One Who gives much [of wealth] or a little,
49. And that He is the Lord of Sirius [i.e., a star worshipped by some Arab pagans before Islam],
50. And that He destroyed the ancient ’Ad,
51. And Thamud, of whom He spared none,
52. And Noah’s people before, who were more unjust and more disobedient,
53. And that He destroyed the town of the people of Lot,
54. Which was covered with stones [of torment].
55. Then which Graces of your Lord do you doubt, [O man]?
56. This [Muhammad] is a Warner like the previous Warners [i.e., Messengers].
57. The Day of Resurrection is drawing nearer and nearer.
58. There is no escape from it.
59. Do you wonder at this recitation [i.e., The Quran]?
60. And do you mock at it instead of weeping,
61. While turning away from it?
62. So prostrate yourselves to Allah and worship [Him].
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.
2. And if they [i.e., disbelievers] see a Sign, they turn away and say, “This is continuous magic.”
3. They have belied [The Quran] and followed their own desires. And all is settled [according to people’s deeds].
4. And the news that has come to them [in the Quran about the end of previous beliars] is enough as a warning.
5. [This Quran is] a perfect wisdom; yet, the warnings have not affected them.
6. So, [O Muhammad], turn away from them, and [wait] until the Day when the caller calls to something horrible [i.e., the Day of Judgment],
7. When they, with humbled eyes, will come out from graves like locusts spread everywhere,
8. Hastening to the caller, and disbelievers will say, “This is a hard Day.”
9. Noah’s people belied before them [i.e., your people, O Muhammad]. They belied Our Messenger [i.e., Noah] and said, “A madman,” and they threatened him.
10. Therefore, he invoked his Lord, “I am weak, so help me.”
11. So We opened the gates of the heaven with pouring water,
12. And We caused springs to gush out from the ground. Thus, the water [from above and from below] met for a matter already decreed [i.e., saving Noah].
13. And We carried him on a ship made of boards and nails,
14. Floating under Our Care, as a reward for him who was rejected [i.e., Noah].
15. And We left it [i.e., the ship] as a Sign. Where are those who may remember?
16. How terrible My punishment and My warnings were!
17. And we have made The Quran easy to recite. Where are those who can recite?
18. ’Ad did also belie [their Messenger]; and how terrible My punishment and My warnings were!
19. We did send against them a very strong and cold wind on a continuously destructive day,
20. Throwing people up as if they were rotten stems of palm-trees. 21. Then, how terrible My punishment and My warnings were!
22. And We have made The Quran easy to recite. Where are those ready to remember?
23. Thamud [also] belied the warnings [from Allah and his Messenger, Salih].
24. They said, “Are we going to follow one of us? If so, then we are really astray and mad.”
25. “Is revelation sent to him alone from among us? He is really a liar.”
26. Tomorrow they will know who the real liar is.
27. We are going to send the she- camel as a test for them, so watch them, [O Salih], and be patient.
28. And tell them that water will be divided between them [i.e., one day for them and the other for the she-camel], with them drinking water if she does not come and milk if she does.
29. But they called their man, who took a sword and killed her.
30. Then, how terrible My punishment and My warnings were!
31. We did send one Cry against them, and they became as motionless as straw.
32. And We have made The Quran easy to recite. Is there anyone who will remember?
33. The people of Lot [also] belied the warnings.
34. We did send against them a strong wind with stones, with the exception of Lot’s family, whom We saved in the end of the night,
35. As a Grace from Us. Thus We reward him who thanks.
36. And Lot had indeed warned them [i.e., his people] of Our punishment, but they doubted the warnings.
37. And they tried to commit sodomy with his guests [of angels sent like handsome men], so We blinded their eyes [saying to them], “Taste My punishment and My warnings.”
38. And in the early morning [of the next day] My torment did come.
39. “So taste My punishment and My warnings.”
40. And We have made The Quran easy to recite. Is there anyone who will remember?
41. And the warnings [by Messengers] came to the people of Pharaoh.
42. They belied all Our Signs, so We punished them the way the All- Exalted, the All-Able, does.
43. Are your disbelievers better than those [of the destroyed nations]? Or do you have an immunity [against Our punishment] in the Scriptures?
44. Or do they say, “We are a strong victorious group.”?
45. This group will be defeated, and they will flee away.
46. And the Hour is their appointed time, and the Hour is much more severe and much more bitter.
47. Truly, criminals are in error and confusion.
48. When they are dragged in the Fire on their faces, [it will be said to them,] “Taste the touch of Hell.”
49. Verily, We have created everything in a due measure.
50. And Our Command is [given] only once and is [carried out] in an eye’s twinkle.
51. And We have destroyed your likes. Is there anyone to remember?
52. And everything that they have done is in the Records [written by watching angels],
53. And all their deeds, whether trivial or serious, are written [in those Records].
54. Verily, the pious will be in Gardens with rivers [i.e., Paradise],
55. Dignified and honored near the All-Able King [i.e., Allah].
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. The Most Gracious [i.e., Allah]
2. Has taught you [i.e., mankind] The Quran.
3. He created man.
4. He taught him [the talent of] speech.
5. The sun and the moon [run in their orbits] in a calculated manner.
6. And stars and trees prostrate themselves [in obedience to Allah].
7. And He has raised up the heaven, and He has set the balance [of justice].
8. You must not transgress the balance.
9. And observe the weight in justice, and do not weigh less than you should.
10. And He established the earth convenient for [all kinds of] creatures.
11. There are [all kinds of] fruits and fruitful date-palms in it [i.e., the earth],
12. And [all kinds of] corn, with its dry and green leaves.
13. So which Graces of your Lord do you both [mankind and jinn] belie?
14. He created man [i.e., Adam] from clay like that of pottery,
15. And He created jinn from pure fire.
16. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
17. [He is] the Lord of the two easts [i.e., the different points of sunrise in winter and summer] and the Lord of the two wests [i.e., the different points of sunset in winter and summer].
18. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
19. He has set the two seas [i.e., the salty water of seas and the drinkable water of rivers], lest they should meet,
20. With a barrier of land between them preventing them from mixing together.
21. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
22. From both of them [i.e., the two kinds of water] come out pearl and coral.
23. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
24. And to Him belong the ships that sail in the seas like mountains.
25. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
26. All [creatures] on it [i.e., the earth] will die,
27. And only your Lord, of Majesty and Honor, remains forever.
28. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
29. Those in the heavens and the earth invoke Him. And every day He is [engaged] in some important affair [such as answering invocations].
30. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
31. We [i.e., Allah] shall judge you both [mankind and jinn].
32. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
33. O jinn and men! If you can go across the heavens and the earth, then go. But you cannot do so except with an authority [from Allah].
34. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
35. [If you try to escape on the Day of Resurrection,] flames of fire and smoke will be sent against you, and you cannot defend yourselves.
36. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
37. And when the heaven is split and becomes red and melted [on the Day of Resurrection],
38. Then which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
39. On that Day no man or jinni will be asked about his sin [, for Allah knows everything about everyone].
40. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
41. Criminals will be known by their face features and will be seized by their forelocks and feet.
42. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
43. This is Hell, which criminals used to deny.
44. They will go between it [i.e., Hell] and boiling water [i.e., punished in two different ways].
45. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie? 46. But for him who fears standing before his Lord, there will be two Gardens.
47. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
48. With wide green branches.
49. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
50. In both of them [i.e., the two Gardens] there will be two flowing springs.
51. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
52. In both of them there will be fruits of all kinds.
53. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
54. [The dwellers of Paradise] will recline upon couches filled with fine silk, with the fruits of the two Gardens near within reach.
55. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
56. In the couches there will be chaste beautiful wives restraining their glances [i.e., desiring none but their husbands], not touched by any man or jinni before [i.e., virgins].
57. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
58. They [i.e., the wives] are like rubies [in purity] and like coral [in whiteness].
59. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
60. Is there a reward for good [done by man in the first life] but good [given to him in the Hereafter by Allah]?
61. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
62. And lower in rank than these two [Gardens], there will be other two Gardens.
63. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
64. [These two Gardens will be] dark green.
65. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
66. They [i.e., the two Gardens] will have two overflowing springs.
67. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
68. They both will have fruits, date-palms, and pomegranates.
69. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
70. In them there will be good beautiful wives.
71. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
72. They will be beautiful wives guarded in pavilions.
73. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
74. Those wives will be chaste, not touched before by any man or jinni.
75. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
76. They will recline on green cushions and beautiful mattresses.
77. So which Graces of your Lord do you both belie?
78. Blessed is the Name of your Lord, the Owner of Majesty and Honor.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. When the Event [i.e., the Day of Resurrection] occurs, it.
2. No one can deny [or stop]
3. It will lower some [in Hell] and raise up some [in Paradise].
4. When the earth is terribly shaken,
5. And mountains are utterly crushed,
6. And turned into scattered dust,
7. You [i.e., mankind] will then be of three types:
8. Those given their Records in their right hands. How fortunate they will be [in Paradise]!
9. And those given their Records in their left hands. How unfortunate they will be [in Hell]!
10. And those first in faith; they will be the first [to enter Paradise].
11. Those will be the nearest [to Allah],
12. In the Gardens of Delight [i.e., Paradise].
13. Most of them will be from among the earlier generations [of believers],
14. And a few of them will be from among the later generations [of believers].
15. They will be on golden thrones,
16. Reclining on them, face to face,
17. Served by eternal boys,
18. With cups, jugs, and glasses of flowing wine,
19. Which causes no headache or loss of mind.
20. And [the boys will be serving] fruits which they may choose,
21. And meat of birds as they desire.
22. And [there will be for them] beautiful wives,
23. Like preserved pearls,
24. As a reward for what they used to do.
25. There in it [i.e., Paradise] they do not hear any vain talk nor any sinful words.
26. They only hear: Peace, Peace [i.e., the greeting in Paradise].
27. As for those given their Records in their right hands, how fortunate they will be!
28. [They will be] among thorn- less fruitful lote-trees,
29. And banana-trees, with piled well-arranged fruits,
30. And extended shade,
31. And flowing water,
32. And a lot of [all kinds of] fruits,
33. Available at any time and always within reach,
34. And highly-raised couches.
35. We have created them [maidens] again,
36. And we have made them virgins,
37. Loving their husbands only and of equal age,
38. For those on the Right Hand [i.e., good-doers],
39. Some of whom will be from the first generations [of believers],
40. And some others will be from later generations.
41. As for those on the Left Hand [i.e., evil-doers and disbelievers], how unfortunate they will be!
42. [They will be] in hot wind and hot water,
43. And in the shadow of smoke,
44. Neither cool nor pleasant.
45. Truly, they were living in luxury before [i.e., in the first life],
46. And they insisted on their disbelief in Allah.
47. And they used to say, “If we die and become dust and bones, shall we then be resurrected?’’
48. “And our forefathers too?’’
49. Say, [O Muhammad to them], “Verily, [all] those who came first and [all] those who came last,”
50. “Will be gathered on the appointed Day.”
51. “Then, O you who are straying deniers [of Resurrection]!”
52. “You will certainly eat of the zaqqoum tree,”
53. “And you will fill your bellies with it.”
54. “And then you will drink boiling water added to it,”
55. “And you will drink like thirsty camels.”
56. This is their entertainment on the Day of Recompense.
57. We created you, so you are to believe.
58. Do you see the semen which you emit?
59. Are you the ones who create it or We?
60. We have decreed death to all of you, and we are not unable
61. To change your forms and create you again in forms unknown to you.
62. And you already know the first creation. Then why do you not remember?
63. Do you see what you sow?
64. Are you the ones who grow it or We?
65. Had We willed , We would have destroyed it and made you regretful,
66. [Saying], “We are being punished.”
67. “No, we are being deprived.”
68. Do you see the water which you drink?
69. Are you the ones who send it down from clouds or We?
70. Had We willed, We would have made it salty and bitter. Then you are to thank [Allah].
71. Do you see the fire which you kindle?
72. Are you the ones who created its tree or We?
73. We have made it a reminder and of use to all who need it.
74. So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
75. No, [it is not as disbelievers say]. I [i.e., Allah] swear by the positions of stars,
76. And it is indeed a great oath, if you only know.
77. It is truly an honorable Quran
78. Already in a Recorded Book,
79. Not touched except by those purified.
80. [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
81. Do you deny this revelation?
82. And do you belie [Messengers] instead of thanking [Allah]?
83. When the soul [of the dying person] reaches the throat,
84. With you [around him] looking at him,
85. And Our angels are closer to him than you, without you perceiving,
86. If you are exempted from punishment [as you claim],
87. Why do you not bring it [i.e., the soul] back [to its body], if you are truthful?
88. If he [i.e., the dying person] is one of those very near [to Allah],
89. He will have rest, provision, and the Garden of Delight [i.e., Paradise].
90. But if he is one of those on the Right Hand [i.e., good-doers],
91. Then peace is for you from those on the Right Hand.
92. And if he is one of those straying beliars,
93. Then his entertainment will be boiling water,
94. And torture in Hell.
95. Verily, this is the absolute certain truth.
96. So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. Whatsoever in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah. And He is the All-Exalted, the All-Wise.
2. He has the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and He causes death, and He is Able to do everything.
3. He is the First, the Last, the Most High, and the Most Near. And He is the All-Knower of everything.
4. It is He Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and then He rose over the throne. He knows what goes into the earth and what comes out of it. And He knows what comes down from the heaven and what goes up to it. And He is with you wherever you are [i.e., knows what you say and do]. And Allah does see what you do.
5. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And to Him all matters are returned.
6. He merges night into day [i.e., makes night shorter], and He merges day into night [i.e., makes day shorter]. And He does know what hearts conceal.
7. Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend [in charity] of what Allah has trusted to you. Those of you who believe and spend [in charity] will have a great reward.
8. Why do you not believe in Allah while the Messenger [i.e., Muhammad] calls you to believe in your Lord and he has taken your pledge, if you are [true] believers?
9. It is He Who sends down to His slave [i.e., Muhammad] clear Verses to bring you out from darkness into light. And Allah is to you Most Kind, Most Merciful.
10. Why do you not spend in the Way of Allah, while to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Those of you who spent and fought before the conquering [of Makkah] cannot be equal [to those who did so after]. The former ones have a higher rank. And Allah has promised the best [reward] to all. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
11. Who is he who lends Allah a good loan and He will double it for him and he will have an honorable reward?
12. [On the Day of Resurrection] you will see male believers and female believers with their light running forward before them and with [their Records] in their right hands. The good news for you this Day is Gardens under which rivers flow, where you abide forever. That is the great success.
13. On that Day, male hypocrites and female hypocrites will say to believers, “Wait for us so that we may get something of your light.” [It will be said to them,] “Return to the rear, and seek light there.” Then a wall will be set up between them [believers and disbelievers] with a gate in it, inside of which there will be mercy and outside there will be torment.
14. Hypocrites will call believers, “Were we not with you?” They will reply, “Yes, but you were indulged in lusts, plotting [against the truth], doubting [Resurrection], and you were deceived by your wishes and desires until the Command of Allah came. And the deceiver [i.e., Satan] could turn you away from Allah.”
15. So this Day, no ransom will be taken from you [i.e., hypocrites], nor from disbelievers. Your abode will be the Fire; it is your friend. And what a terrible end!
16. Is it not time for the believers’ hearts to submit when Allah is mentioned, and to yield to what has been revealed of the truth [i.e., The Quran] ,and not to be like those given the scripture before [i.e., Jews and Christians], whose hearts, after the passage of a long time, have hardened and have become disobedient [to Allah]?
17. You have to know that Allah gives life to the earth after its death. We have made Signs so clear that you may understand.
18. Verily, as for those men and women who spend in charity and lend Allah a loan with a sincere intention, their loan will be doubled for them, and they will have an honorable reward [i.e., Paradise].
19. And those who believe in their Lord and His Messengers, and those who were the first to believe, and martyrs shall have their reward and their light with their Lord. But those who disbelieve and belie Our Signs shall dwell in Hell.
20. You have to know that this worldly life is only play, fun, pomp, and mutual boasting among you of wealth and children. It is like a plant that pleases farmers after rain; then it grows fast and green; then it [soon] becomes yellow; then it turns into straw. And in the Hereafter, there will be a severe punishment [for evil-doers] and forgiveness and pleasure from Allah [for good-doers]. And this life is nothing but a temporary enjoyment.
21. Seek the forgiveness of your Lord and a Paradise as wide as the heaven and the earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers. That is the Grace of Allah, which He gives to whomever He wills. And Allah is of Great Grace.
22. Every disaster that befalls the earth or anyone of you has already been written in the Book of Decrees before creation. Verily, that is very easy for Allah.
23. [Such is the case] so that you may not grieve at what you miss and not rejoice at what He grants you. And Allah does not like proud boasters.
24. [And Allah also does not like] those who do not spend in charity and urge people not to spend as well. And whoever turns away [from obeying Allah], Allah is Rich, Praise-Worthy.
25. We have sent Our Messengers with Clear Signs [i.e., miracles]. And We have sent down with them the Scripture and the Balance so that people will deal with justice. And We have sent down iron with its great strength and other benefits for mankind so that Allah will know those who support Him [i.e., His religion] and His Messengers in the Unseen. Verily, Allah is All-Strong, All- Exalted.
26. And We did send Noah and Abraham, and We put in their offspring Prophethood and the Scripture. Some of them are guided, but many of them are disobedient [to Allah]
27. Then We sent after them Our Messengers, and We sent Jesus son of Mary, and we gave him The Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him sympathy and mercy. As for the monasticism which they invented, We have not commanded them to practice it. They [through it] intended to please Allah, but they did not observe it as they should. So We gave those among them who believed their reward, but many of them are disobedient [to Allah].
28. O you who believe! Fear Allah and believe in His Messenger [i.e., Muhammad], and He will give you a double share of His Mercy and grant you a light by which you go [straight], and He will forgive you. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
29. [That is such] so that the people of the Scripture [i.e., Jews and Christians] may know that they cannot change the Grace of Allah and that all Grace is in the Hand of Allah, which He grants to whomever He wills. And Allah is the Owner of the Great Grace.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. Allah has indeed heard the speech of the woman who was disputing with you [i.e., Muhammad] about her husband and was complaining to Allah. And Allah hears your dialogue; verily, Allah is the All-Hearer, the All- Seer.
2. As for those of you who say to their wives that they are to them like their mothers’ backs, they [i.e., their wives] cannot be their mothers. Their mothers are indeed those who gave them birth. What they say is unacceptable and untrue. Verily, Allah is Oft-Pardoning, Oft- Forgiving.
3. And those who say to their wives that they are to them like their mothers’ backs and wish to cancel what they have said must free a slave before he touches his wife. That is a kind of punishment so that you may not repeat it. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
4. And whoever cannot find [enough money to free a slave], he must fast two successive months before he touches his wife. If he cannot fast, he must feed sixty poor people. This is ordained in order to make you believe better in Allah and His Messenger. And these are the limits set by Allah. And there will be a severe punishment for disbelievers.
5. Verily, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be humiliated as those before them. And We have sent down Clear Signs. And disbelievers will have a humiliating torment
6. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all and inform them of what they did. He [i.e., Allah] has recorded their deeds, whereas they have forgotten them. And Allah is the Witness over all things.
7. Do you not see that Allah knows what is in the heavens and the earth? There is no secret counsel of three [persons] but He is their fourth [in knowledge], nor of five but He is their sixth, and nor of more or less but He is with them wherever they are. And then He will inform them of what they did on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, Allah is the All-Knower of everything.
8. Have you not seen those who were forbidden to hold secret counsel [against others]? Yet, they re-do what they were prohibited to do, and they conspire intending sin, aggression, and disobedience to the Messenger [i.e., Muhammad]. And when they come to you, they greet you with a greeting which Allah has not greeted you with, saying to themselves, “Why does Allah not punish us for what we say [if we were doing wrong]?” Hell will be sufficient for them, where they will dwell. And what a bad end it will be!
9. O you who believe! If you hold secret counsel, do not do so for sin, aggression, and disobedience to the Messenger, but do it for righteousness and piety. And fear Allah, to Whom you will be returned.
10. Secret counsel is only [due to the temptation] of Satan, who means to cause grief to those who believe, but he cannot harm them in the least except with the Permission of Allah. And in Allah believers must place their trust.
11. O you who believe! When you are told to make room in a gathering, spread out and make room. If you do so, Allah will give you of His Mercy. And when you are told to rise up [to do anything good], rise up. Allah will raise in rank those of you who believe and have been granted knowledge. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
12. O you who believe! When you want to consult the Messenger in private, spend something in charity before doing so. That is better for you and purer. But if you cannot afford it, Allah is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.
13. Are you afraid of spending in charity before your private consultation [with the Messenger]? Since you cannot do it and Allah has pardoned you, then perform prayer, pay zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
14. Have you [i.e., Muhammad] not seen those [hypocrites] who make friends with a people whom Allah is angry with [i.e., Jews]? They [i.e., hypocrites] are not of you [i.e., believers], nor of them [i.e., Jews]. And they swear telling lies [that they are with you], and they know [that they are liars].
15. Allah has prepared a severe punishment for them [i.e., hypocrites] since their deeds were so evil.
16. They have used their [false] oaths as a means of defense, and thus they turned people away from the Way of Allah. Therefore, theirs will be a humiliating torment.
17. Neither their wealth nor their children will benefit them [i.e., hypocrites] against Allah. They will be the dwellers of the Fire, where they will abide forever.
18. On the Day when Allah will resurrect them all, they [i.e., hypocrites] will swear to Him [falsely] as they swear to you, thinking that they are guided. But, in fact, they are liars.
19. Satan has controlled them [i.e., hypocrites] and made them forget to remember Allah. Those are the party of Satan. The party of Satan will be the losers, indeed.
20. Verily, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger [i.e., Muhammad] are among the most humiliated.
21. Allah has decreed, “I and My Messengers will surely be victorious.” Verily, Allah is All- Powerful, All-Exalted.
22. You, [O Muhammad], will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Hereafter making friends with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers, their sons, their brothers, or their relatives. For such people, Allah has written faith in their hearts and has supported them with power from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens under which rivers flow, where they will abide forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. Those are Allah’s party, and Allah’s party will certainly be the successful.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. Whoever is in the Heavens and the earth glorifies Allah. And He is the All-Exalted, the All-Wise.
2. It is He Who drove out the disbelievers among the people of the Scripture [i.e., the Jews of Banu Al-Nadeer at Al- Madeenah] from their homes to their first gathering [in the north]. You [i.e., Muslims] thought that they would not get out [of their homes in defeat], and they thought that their castles would save them from Allah. But Allah came against them from where they never expected, and He filled their hearts with horror. They [i.e., the evacuated Jews] destroyed their homes with their own hands and believers’ hands. So learn the lesson, O people of understanding.
3. And if Allah had not decreed evacuation for them, He would have punished them in this world [in another way]. And in the Hereafter they will have the torture of the Fire.
4. That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah, Allah is of severe punishment, indeed.
5. And as for the palm-trees [of the enemy] which you [i.e., Muslims] have cut down or left standing on their stems, that has been done with Allah’s Permission so that He would humiliate those who were disobedient [to Him].
6. And what Allah gave His Messenger as booty from them [i.e., the enemies], you [i.e., Muslims] did not fight on horses or camels [in that case since the Jews of Bani Al- Nadeer surrendered to prophet Muhammad without any fighting]. But Allah gives power to His Messengers against whomever He wills. And Allah is Able to do everything.
7. As for the booty which Allah gave to His Messenger [i.e., Muhammad] from the people of the towns [won as in the case of Bani Al–Nadeer], it is [distributed] in the Way of Allah to the Messenger, to relatives, orphans, the needy, and wayfarers so that wealth may not be a monopoly among the rich only. And whatever the Messenger orders you to do, obey him. And whatever he forbids you, avoid it. And fear Allah, for He is of severe punishment, indeed.
8. [A share of this booty is also] for the poor emigrants who were driven out from their homes [at Makkah] and were deprived of their wealth, seeking the Grace of Allah and to please Him, supporting the religion of Allah and His Messenger. Those are the truthful [in their words and deeds].
9. And [booty is also for] those who stayed at their homes [at Al-Madeenah] and believed before them [i.e., the emigrants from Makkah to Al-Madeenah]. They love those who emigrated to them, and they find in their hearts no envy for what the emigrants were given of the booty, and they prefer others to themselves even if they are in need. And whoever is saved from his own miserliness, they are the successful.
10. And those who came after them say, “O our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who believed before us, and do not place in our hearts any hatred against those who believe. O our Lord! Verily, You are Most Kind, Most Merciful.”
11. Have you [i.e., Muhammad] not seen hypocrites saying to their friends of the people of the Scripture who disbelieve, “We swear that if you are driven out [from your homes], we will leave with you. And we will never obey anyone against you. And if you are fought, we will support you.” And Allah does witness that they are liars.
12. If they [i.e., the Jews] are driven out, they [i.e., hypocrites] will not leave with them. And if they are fought, they will not support them. And if they support them, they will turn their backs, and they will not get victory.
13. They [i.e., disbelievers] fear you [i.e., Muslims] more than they fear Allah. That is because they are a people who do not understand [the power of Allah].
14. They all [i.e., non-Muslims] do not fight against you [i.e., Muslims] except [when they are] in fortified towns or from behind walls. Their enmity among themselves is very great: you think that they are united, but in fact their hearts are divided. That is because they are a people who do not understand.
15. They are like those immediately before them. They tasted the evil result of their behavior, and they will have a painful torment [in the Hereafter].
16. [Their story is] like that of Satan, when he said to a man “Disbelieve.” But when he disbelieved, Satan said [to him], “I have nothing to do with you. I do fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds.”
17. So the end of both [i.e., Satan and that man] will be in the Fire, abiding in it forever. And that is the recompense of wrong doers.
18. O you who believe! Fear Allah, and each [of you] should see what he has prepared for the Hereafter. And fear Allah; verily, He is All-Aware of what you do.
19. And do not be like those who forgot Allah, and thus He made them forget themselves. Those are the rebellious.
20. The dwellers of the Fire cannot be equal to the dwellers of Paradise. The dwellers of Paradise are the winners.
21. If We had sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would have seen it humble itself and split in fear of Allah. And such examples We set for people so that they may think.
22. He is Allah, besides Whom there is no other god. He is the All- Knower of the Unseen and the Seen. He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
23. He is Allah, besides Whom there is no other god. He is the King, the Holy, the One Free of all defects, the Giver of Security, the Watcher [over His creatures], the All-Exalted, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory is to Him above what they associate as partners with Him.
24. He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator, the Bestower of forms. He has the Best Names. All those in the heavens and the earth glorify Him, and He is the All-Exalted, the All-Wise.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. O you who believe! Do not take My enemy and your enemy [i.e., disbelievers] as friends, seeking to please them, while they have disbelieved in the truth that has come to you [i.e., Islam] .They [i.e., disbelievers] have driven out the Messenger [i.e., Muhammad] and you [from your homes] only because you have believed in Allah, your Lord. [Do not befriend disbelievers] if you have really come out in order to strive in My Cause and in order to please Me. Some of you [i.e., Muslims] offer friendship to them secretly, while I [i.e., Allah] know best what you conceal and what you reveal. And whoever of you does so, he has gone away from the Straight Path.
2. If they [i.e., disbelievers] find you [i.e., Muslims] weak, they show their enmity to you and hurt you with their hands and their tongues, and they wish that you became disbelievers [as they are].
3. Neither your relatives nor your children will benefit you on the Day of Resurrection. He will judge among you, and Allah is the All-Seer of what you do.
4. There has been a good example for you [i.e., Muslims] in Abraham and those who followed him, when they said to their people, “We are innocent of you and of what you worship besides Allah. We have rejected you [i.e., your religion], and enmity and hatred between us and you will continue until you believe in Allah only. [The exception is] what Abraham said to his father, “I will ask Allah to forgive you, but I can do nothing for you before Allah.” [And Abraham and his followers continued to say,] “Our Lord! We put our trust in you, and to you we repent, and to You is the Return [on the Day of Resurrection].”
5. “O our Lord! Do not let those who disbelieve be victorious over us, and forgive us, O our Lord! You are the All-Exalted, the All- Wise.”
6. They [i.e., Abraham and his followers] have been a good example for you, for him who desires to please Allah and works for the Last Day. And whoever turns away, verily, Allah is the Rich, the Praise-Worthy.
7. It may be that Allah will make friendship between you [i.e., Muslims] and your enemies, for Allah is Able, and Allah is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.
8. Allah does not forbid you [i.e., Muslims] to be kind and fair to those who have not fought against you because of your religion and have not driven you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who are just.
9. But Allah does forbid you [i.e., Muslims] to befriend those who have fought against you because of your religion and have driven you out of your homes and have helped to drive you out. And whoever befriends them, he is among wrong-doers.
10. O you who believe! If believing women come to you as emigrants, test them [as to their faith]; Allah knows best their faith. If you are certain of their faith, do not return them to disbelievers, for they are not allowed [as wives] for them, nor are they allowed [as husbands] for them. And give them [i.e., male disbelievers] back what they spent [as dowry]. And there is no sin on you [i.e., Muslim men] to marry them if you have paid their dowries. And do not keep disbelieving women as your wives, and ask for the return of what you have spent as dowry, and disbelieving men has the same right. That is the judgment of Allah: He judges between you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
11. And if any of your wives has gone to disbelievers [, who then refuse to return her dowry], and you gain booty, then pay those whose wives have gone the equivalent of the dowry which they have already paid. And fear Allah, in Whom you believe.
12. O Prophet! When believing women come to you to give you their pledge that they do not take any partners with Allah, that they do not steal, that they do not commit illegal sexual intercourse, that they do not kill their own children, that they do not attribute illegal children to their husbands, and that they do not disobey you in what is good, then accept their pledge, and ask Allah to forgive them. Verily, Allah is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful.
13. O you who believe! Do not ally with those with whom Allah is angry [i.e., disbelievers]. They have despaired of [the reward of] the Hereafter as [living] disbelievers have despaired to meet with those in the graves [, for they do not believe in Resurrection].
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. All those in the heavens and the earth glorify Allah. And He is the All-Exalted, the All-Wise.
2. O you who believe! Why do you say what you do not do?
3. It is so hated by Allah that you say what you do not do. 4. Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in rows as if they were one solid structure. 5. And [remember] when Moses said to his people, “Why do you hurt me while you know that I am the Messenger of Allah to you?” When they turned away [from Allah’s Message], Allah turned away their hearts. And Allah does not guide those who are disobedient [to Him].
6. And [remember] when Jesus son of Mary said, “O the children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah to you, confirming The Torah, which was sent before me, and bearing the glad news of a Messenger coming after me, whose name is more praised [than all other names]. When he [i.e., Muhammad] came to them with the Clear Signs, they said, “This is clear magic.”
7. And who is more wrong than him who invents lies against Allah while he is being called to Islam? And Allah does not guide those who are wrong-doers.
8. They [i.e., disbelievers] desire to put out the Light of Allah [i.e., His Guidance] with their mouths [i.e., false speech], but Allah will perfect His Light even though disbelievers hate [it].
9. It is He who has sent His Messenger [i.e., Muhammad] with Guidance and the religion of the truth [i.e., Islam] so as to make it victorious over all other religions even though polytheists hate [it].
10. O you who believe! Shall I guide you to a trade which saves you from a painful torment?
11. Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and strive hard in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and lives. That is better for you if you know.
12. [If you do so,] He will forgive you your sins and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow and into good dwellings in Eden Paradise. That is the great success
13. And [He will give you] another [reward] which you like: support from Allah and a near victory. And bear the glad news to believers.
14. O you who believe! Be helpers in the Cause of Allah, as Jesus son of Mary said to the disciples, “Who are my helpers in the Cause of Allah?” The disciples said, “We are the helpers in the Cause of Allah.” Then a group of the people of Israel [from Jesus’ time until before Islam] believed [in his Message], and a group disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and finally they became victorious [by the coming of Islam].
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. All those in the heavens and on the earth glorify Allah, the King, the Holy, the All-Exalted, the All- Wise.
2. It is He Who sent to the illiterate [i.e., the Arabs] a Messenger from among them [i.e., Muhammad], reciting to them His Verses [from The Quran], purifying them, and teaching them the Book [i.e., The Quran] and the Wisdom [i.e., the Sayings of Prophet Muhammad] although they had already been in plain error.
3. And [He sent him also to] others who have not embraced Islam yet [, but they will soon]. And Allah is the All-Exalted, the All-Wise.
4. That is the Grace of Allah, which he grants to whomever He wills. And Allah is the Owner of the Great Grace.
5. Those who were entrusted with The Torah [i.e., Jews] but they did not obey it are like a donkey carrying books [without understanding what it carries]. How bad are those who have denied the Signs of Allah! And Allah does not guide those who are wrong-doers.
6. Say, [O Muhammad], “O you Jews! If you claim that you are the friends of Allah to the exclusion of other people, then wish to die, if you are truthful.”
7. And they will never wish for it because of the evil which their hands have earned. And Allah is the All-Knower of wrong-doers.
8. Say [to them], “Verily, the death which you try to escape will meet you, then you will be returned to the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”
9. O you who believe! When it is called for the noon prayer of Friday, walk to mosque and leave off business. That is better for you, if you know.
10. When [this] prayer is over, spread all around the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allah, and remember Allah much so that you may succeed.
11. And when they see some trade or fun, they go to it, leaving you [i.e., Muhammad] delivering [the Friday-noon speech]. Say, “What Allah has is better than fun and trade. And Allah is the Best Provider.”
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. When hypocrites come to you [i.e., Muhammad], they say, “We bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.” And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are actually liars.
2. They have made their [false] oaths as a means of deceit, and thus they have hindered [people] from the path of Allah [i.e., Islam]. How evil what they used to do is! 3. That is because they believed and then they disbelieved. Thus, their hearts are sealed, and they do not understand.
4. And when you see them [i.e., hypocrites], you admire their bodies; and when they speak, you listen to them [owing to their eloquence]. But in fact they are like propped pieces of wood; they think that every cry is against them [because of their cowardice]. They are the enemy, so beware of them. The curse of Allah is upon them. How can they turn away [from the Straight Path]?
5. And when it is said to them [i.e., hypocrites], “Come so that the Messenger of Allah may ask Allah to forgive you,” they turn away their heads [in refusal], and you see them hindering [people] [from the Path of Allah] quite arrogantly.
6. It is all the same to them [i.e., hypocrites]: whether you [i.e., Muhammad] ask Allah to forgive them or you do not, Allah will never forgive them. Verily, Allah does not guide those who are rebellious.
7. They are the ones who say, “Do not spend on those with the Prophet so that they may desert him.” And to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but hypocrites do not understand.
8. They [i.e., hypocrites] say, “When we return to Al-Madeenah, the more honorable in it will drive out the lower.” Honor does belong to Allah, His Messenger, and believers, but hypocrites do not know.
9. O you who believe! Do not let your wealth or your children make you forget remembering Allah. And whoever does so, they are the losers.
10. And spend [in charity] of what We have provided you before death comes to one of you and he says, “O my Lord! If only You could delay me for a little time so that I should spend in charity and be among the righteous.”
11. And Allah never delays a person if the appointed time [i.e., death] comes. And Allah is All- Aware of what you do.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. All those in the heavens and on the earth glorify Allah. To Him belong the dominion and praise. And He is Able to do everything.
2. It is He Who created you. Then some of you are disbelievers, and some are believers. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do.
3. He has created the heavens and the earth in truth. And He has shaped you and made your shapes good. And to Him is the Return [on the Day of Resurrection].
4. He knows what is in the heavens and the earth, and He knows what you conceal and what you reveal. And Allah is the All- Knower of what is in your hearts.
5. Has the news not come to you of those who disbelieved before? They tasted the evil result of what they had done, and they will [also] have a painful punishment.
6. That is because their Messengers came to them with the Clear Signs, but they said, “Will mere humans guide us?” They disbelieved and turned away [from Allah’s Message], and Allah was not in need [of them]. And Allah is Rich [i.e., does not need anyone], Praise-Worthy.
7. Those who disbelieve [falsely] claim that they will never be resurrected. Say, [O Muhammad], “Yes, by my Lord, you will be surely resurrected, and then you will be informed of what you did. And that is easy for Allah.”
8. Therefore, believe in Allah, His Messenger, and the Light which We have revealed [i.e., The Quran]. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
9. [And remember] the Day when He will gather you on the Day of Gathering. That will be the Day of mutual loss and gain [i.e., loss for disbelievers and gain for believers]. And whoever believes in Allah and does good, He will expiate his sins from him and will admit him into Gardens under which rivers flow, abiding in there forever. That is the great success.
10. But those who disbelieve and reject Our Signs are the dwellers of the Fire, dwelling in there forever. And what an evil end it is!
11. No calamity befalls one except with Allah’s Permission. And whoever believes in Allah, He will guide his heart [to patience]. And Allah is the All-Knower of everything.
12. And obey Allah, and obey the Messenger [i.e., Muhammad]. But if you turn away, the Messenger’s duty is only to convey the Message clearly.
13. There is no god but Allah. And in Allah believers must put their trust.
14. O you who believe! Verily, among your wives and your children there may be enemies to you [if they tempt you to disobey Allah]. Therefore, beware of them. And if you pardon, overlook, and forgive [their faults], then verily Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
15. Your wealth and your children are only a test [for you]. And with Allah there is a great reward [i.e., Paradise].
16. So fear Allah as much as you can. And listen and obey [Him] and spend [in charity]. That is better for you. And whoever is saved from his own miserliness, they are the successful.
17. If you lend Allah a good loan [i.e., spend in charity], He will double it for you and forgive you. And Allah rewards whoever thanks Him, and He is Most Forbearing.
18. [He is] the All-Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, the All- Exalted, the All-Wise.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. O Prophet [Muhammad]! If you [i.e., Muslims] divorce women, divorce them at [the end of] their appointed period [i.e., three menstruations], and count the periods accurately. And fear Allah, your Lord. Do not turn them out of their homes [i.e., the husband’s home], nor should they [themselves] leave unless they commit adultery. And these are the limits set by Allah. And whoever goes beyond the limits set by Allah wrongs himself. You do not know; it may be that Allah will [after the first divorce] change your heart [and you decide to return her].
2. If they [i.e., divorced women] are about to end the appointed period, you may get them back [to marriage] kindly or part with them kindly. And have two just witnesses from among you, and establish the testimony as Allah commands. These teachings are addressed to him whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever fears Allah, He will help him out [of every difficulty],
3. And He will provide him from where he does not know. And whoever places his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Verily, Allah carries out whatever He plans. And Allah has made a measure for everything.
4. As for [divorced] women who do not menstruate any more, their waiting period [before divorce is in effect] is three months. And so is the case with [immature] women not reaching menses yet. As for pregnant women, their waiting period is until they give birth. And whoever fears Allah, He will make things easy for him.
5. That is the Command of Allah, which He has sent down to you. And whoever fears Allah, He expiates his sins from him and increases his reward.
6. Let them [i.e., divorced women in the appointed period] dwell where you dwell, and do not harm them by forcing them to leave your house. And if she is pregnant, spend on her until she gives birth. And if she suckles the child for you, pay her for that. And you [i.e., the two parents] had better settle problems kindly and with good will. But if you cannot come to reconciliation, then another woman is to suckle the child.
7. Let a rich man spend according to his means [on his child]. But if he is not rich, let him spend according to what Allah has given him. Allah does not require from a person to spend but according to what He has given him. And Allah will grant ease after hardship.
8. And many a town rebelled against the Command of its Lord and His Messengers. Therefore, We punished it severely, and Our torment was horrible.
9. So it tasted the evil result of what it did, and its consequence was a loss.
10. Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment [in the Hereafter]. Thus, fear Allah, O people of understanding who have believed! Allah has sent down to you a Reminder [i.e., The Quran].
11. [And He has sent] a Messenger [i.e., Muhammad], who recites to you the clear Verses of Allah so as to take out those who believe and do good deeds from darkness [i.e., disbelief] to the light [i.e., Islam]. And whoever believes in Allah and does good, He will admit him into Gardens under which rivers flow, dwelling in there forever. And Allah will grant him an excellent provision [in Paradise].
12. It is Allah Who has created seven heavens and seven of the earth [i.e., seven layers]. His Command is sent down between them so that you may know that Allah is actually Able to do everything and that He does know everything.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. O Prophet! Why do you forbid [for yourself] what Allah has allowed for you, seeking to please your wives? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
2. Allah has ordained for you the absolution from your oaths. And Allah is your Protector, and He is the All-Knower, the All- Wise
3. And [remember] when the Prophet [i.e., Muhammad] told one of his wives a matter in confidence, then she told it to another [wife of his], and Allah made it known to him; he informed a part of it and ignored a part. When he told her of it [i.e., his wives’ jealousy of a certain wife of his], she said, “Who has told you of this?” He said, “The All-Knower, the All-Aware, has told me.”
4. If you both [i.e., his two wives: Hafsa and ’Aishah] repent to Allah, then your hearts become pure. But if you both help one another against him [i.e., Muhammad], then Allah is his Protector. And Gabriel, the righteous among believers, and angels are also helpers [of him].
5. If he [i.e., Muhammad] divorces you [all], it may be that He will replace you with better wives, who submit to Allah, believe in Him, obey Him, repent to Him, worship Him, and fast [for His sake], whether previously married or virgins.
6. O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families [by obeying Allah] against the Fire, the fuel of which is people and stones, guarded by strict and severe angels, who never disobey Allah when He orders them and who always do what they are commanded.
7. O you who disbelieve! Do not apologize this Day [i.e., the Day of Judgment]. You are only recompensed for what you used to do.
8. O you who believe! Repent to Allah with a sincere repentance [i.e., never return to the sin]. If you do so, your Lord will expiate your sins from you and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, on the Day when Allah will not disgrace the prophet [i.e., Muhammad] and those who believe with him. Their Light will run before them, with their Records of deeds in their right hands. They will be saying, “O our Lord! Perfect our Light for us and forgive us .You are Able to do everything.”
9. O Prophet [Muhammad]! Strive hard against disbelievers and hypocrites, and be severe against them [in this life]. And their abode will be Hell [in the Hereafter]; and what an evil end it will be!
10. Allah sets an example for those who disbelieve: Noah’s wife and Lot’s wife. They both were under two of Our righteous servants. Yet, they both betrayed their husbands [by their disbelief]; therefore, they both [i.e., the husbands] were of no benefit to them [i.e., their wives, respectively] against Allah. And it will be said [to both women], “Enter the Fire with those who enter it.”
11. And Allah sets an example for those who believe: Pharaoh’s wife, when she said, “O my Lord! Build for me with You a home in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the people who are wrong-doers.”
12. And [another example for believers is] Mary, the daughter of Imran, who was always chaste. And We breathed into her sleeve through Gabriel [and made her pregnant with Jesus]. And she believed in the Words of her Lord and His Scriptures, and she was always obedient [to Allah].
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion. And He is Able to do everything.
2. [He is the One] Who has created death and life so as to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the All-Exalted the Oft-forgiving,
3. Who has created the seven heavens one above the other. You cannot see any defect in the creation of the Most Gracious. Then look again; do you see any faults [in the creation]?
4. Then look again and once again. Your sight will return to you exhausted and humiliated.
5. And We have decorated the nearest heaven with lamps [i.e., stars], and We have made parts of them as missiles against devils. And we have prepared for them [i.e., devils] the torment of the Blazing Fire [in the Hereafter].
6. And for those who disbelieve in their Lord is the torment of Hell. And what an evil end it is!
7. When they are thrown into it [i.e., Hell], they will hear its inhalation while it is boiling.
8. It [i.e., Hell] will almost split up with fury. Whenever a group is cast in it, its keepers [of angles] will ask, “Did no Warner [i.e., Messenger] come to you?”
9. They will say, “Yes, a Warner did actually come to us. But we belied him and said, ‘Allah has sent down nothing [of revelation]. You are but in a great error.’ ”
10. And they will say, “Had we listened or understood, we would not have been among the dwellers of the Blazing Fire.”
11. Thus, they confessed their sin. So let the dwellers of the Blazing Fire have their punishment.
12. As for those who fear their Lord unseen [i.e., seen by none except Allah], they will have forgiveness and a great reward [from Allah].
13. Whether you talk in whisper or aloud, He is certainly the All-Knower of what hearts conceal.
14. Does He not know those whom He has created? And He is the Most Kind, the All-Aware.
15. It is He Who has made the earth submissive to you. Thus, walk all around it, and eat of His provision, and to Him is Resurrection.
16. Do you feel secure that He Who is in the heaven [i.e., Allah] will not cause the earth to sink with you and shake in disorder?
17. Or do you feel secure that Allah will not send against you a strong stony wind? Then you shall know how terrible My warning is.
18. And those before them belied [Messengers], and My punishment was so severe.
19. Do they not see birds above them, spreading and folding [their wings], not upheld except by the Most Gracious [i.e., Allah]? He is the All-Seer of everything.
20. Who is he that can support you instead of Allah? Disbelievers are really in nothing but delusion.
21. Who is he that can provide you if He does not provide you? They [i.e., disbelievers] have continued in their arrogance and turning away [from Islam].
22. Is he who walks on his face [in error] more guided or he who walks upright on the Straight Path?
23. Say, “It is He Who has created you and granted you hearing, seeing, and understanding. But you thank [Him] only a little.”
24. Say, “It is He Who has made you spread on the earth, and to Him you will be gathered [in the Hereafter].”
25. And they [i.e., disbelievers] say, “When is that promise [of Resurrection], if you are truthful?”
26. Say, [O Muhammad], “The knowledge [of the exact time of Resurrection] is only with Allah. I am only a plain Warner.”
27. When they [i.e., disbelievers] see it really coming [i.e., punishment in the Hereafter], their faces will turn into sadness. And it will be said [to them], “This is what you used to hasten.”
28. Say, [O Muhammad to disbelievers], “What if Allah destroys me and those with me or grants us from His Mercy, who can save disbelievers from a painful torment?”
29. Say, “He is the Most Gracious, in Whom we believe, and in Him we place our trust. And you will come to know who is in plain error.”
30. Say [to disbelievers], “If your water sinks down [into the earth], who can provide you with flowing water [except Allah]?”
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. Noon. [These Arabic letters symbolize the Arabic letters of which the Quranic text is composed.] By the pen and what they [i.e., angels] write [in the Records of deeds],
2. You [i.e., Muhammad], by the Grace of your Lord, are not mad [as disbelievers claim].
3. Verily, you [i.e., Muhammad] will have a continuous reward [for your patience and efforts in conveying the Message of Allah].
4. And you are certainly of great ethics.
5. You will see, and they [i.e., disbelievers] will see
6. Which of you is really astray.
7. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray away from His Path, and He knows best who is guided.
8. So do not obey beliars.
9. They wish that you made compromise [with your religion] so that they would make compromise [with you].
10. And do not obey any swearer who is a liar,
11. A backbiter, a tale-bearer,
12. A miser, a sinful aggressor,
13. Cruel, and wicked.
14. [Such a man is an evil- doer] although he has wealth and children.
15. When Our Verses are recited to him, he says, “The tales of the past.”
16. We will mark his [evil] face [in the Hereafter].
17. Verily, We have tested them as We have tested the people of the orchard when they swore that they would certainly collect the fruits in the [early] morning [in order not to be seen by the poor],
18. Without saying, “If Allah wills.”
19. Then a disaster from your Lord hit the orchard [i.e., the garden] while they were asleep.
20. So it became, by the morning, like dry straw.
21. In the morning they called out one to another,
22. “Go to your orchard if you want to collect the fruits.”
23. So they went [to their orchard] whispering to one another, 24. “Do not let any poor man enter it [i.e., the orchard] today.”
25. They went with strong intention, thinking in the morning that they could [deprive the poor of its fruits].
26. When they saw it [destroyed], they said, “We have missed the right way [to the orchard],” [thinking that it was not theirs].
27. “No, we are deprived of the fruits.”
28. The best man among them said, “Did I not tell you to glorify Allah?”
29. They said [admitting their error], “Glory is to our Lord! We have been wrong-doers, indeed.”
30. ِِ And they began to blame one another [for what had happened].
31. They said, “Woe to us! We have been transgressors, indeed.”
32. “We ask our Lord to give us a better one. We do turn to our Lord [asking for His forgiveness].”
33. Such is the punishment [in this life], and the punishment of the Hereafter will certainly be greater, if they only knew.
34. As for the pious, they will certainly have the Gardens of Delight with their Lord.
35. Shall We [i.e., Allah] then treat Muslims as We treat criminals [i.e., disbelievers]?
36. How come? How do you [i.e., disbelievers] judge?
37. Or do you have a Book from which you learn,
38. And from which you choose?
39. Or do you have certain oaths from Us, valid to the Day of Resurrection, that you will get what you desire?
40. Ask them which of them can guarantee that.
41. Or do they have partners? Let them then bring their partners, if they are truthful.
42. [Remember] the Day of Resurrection, when they [i.e., disbelievers] will be called to prostrate themselves [to Allah], but they will not be able to do so.
43. Their eyes will be lowered down in humiliation. They used to be called to prostration [to Allah, in prayer] when they were healthy [, but they refused].
44. So leave Me alone with those who deny this Quran. We will punish them when and where they do not know.
45. And I will delay My punishment. Verily, My plan is so strong.
46. Or do you [i.e., Muhammad] ask for a wage from them and thus make them burdened with debts?
47. Or do they know the Unseen and write it?
48. So wait, [O Muhammad], with patience for the Decision of your Lord, and do not be like the Companion of the whale, when he cried [to his Lord] while in distress.
49. Had it not been for a Grace from his Lord, [he would have been in the whale’s stomach], but he was saved and cast on the shore, and he was to be blamed [for what had happened to him].
50. Then his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.
51. And those who disbelieve are about to envy you [because of their hatred] when they hear the Reminder [i.e., The Quran], and they say that he is a madman.
52. But, in fact it [i.e., The Quran] is nothing but a Reminder to all.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. The Inevitable [i.e., the Day of Resurrection]!
2. What is the Inevitable?
3. And what will make you know what the Inevitable is?
4. Thamud and ’Ad [i.e., two ancient peoples] denied [the coming of] the Day of Judgment.
5. As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the Cry.
6. As for ’Ad, they were destroyed by a strong cold wind,
7. Which Allah sent against them for seven nights and eight days in succession. As a result, you could see them dead as if they were empty trunks of palm- trees.
8. Do you see any remnants of them?
9. And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the rebellious committed sins,
10. And thus disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord, so He punished them severely.
11. When the water flooded beyond the limits, We carried you in the ship,
12. In order to make it a lesson for you, remembered by men of understanding.
13. Then when the Trumpet is blown once,
14. And the earth and mountains are removed from their places and crushed once,
15. Then the [Great] Event will take place [i.e., Resurrection],
16. And the heaven will be split and thus become so weak,
17. And angels will be all around, and eight [of angels] will be carrying the throne of your Lord above them.
18. On that Day, you will be brought to Judgment [before Allah], with no secret of yours hidden.
19. As for him who will be given his Record [of deeds] in his right hand, he will say, “Here it is. Read my Record!”
20. “I believed that I will meet my account.”
21. He will be in a very pleasant life,
22. In a high Paradise,
23. The fruits of which will be at hand.
24. Eat and drink at ease for whatever [good] you did in the passing days.
25. But as for him who will be given his Record [of deeds] in his left hand, he will say, “I wish that I had not been given my Record,”
26. “And that I had not known what my account is.”
27. “I wish that it [i.e., death] had been the end.”
28. “My wealth has been of no benefit to me.”
29. “My power has let me down [too].”
30. It will be said, “Take him and chain him,”
31. “Then throw him in the Fire.” 32. “Then fasten him with a seventy-cubit chain.”
33. He did not believe in Allah, the Most Great,
34. And he did not urge feeding the poor.
35. Thus, he has no friend here and now [in the Hereafter],
36. And he has no food [in Hell] except from the worst food,
37. Not eaten except by sinners.
38. I swear by what you see,
39. And by what you do not see,
40. That it [i.e., The Quran] is conveyed by an honored Messenger [i.e., prophet Muhammad],
41. And it is not the word of a poet. You only believe a little.
42. Nor is it the word of a soothsayer. You only remember a little.
43. It [i.e., The Quran] is the Revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
44. And had he [i.e., Muhammad] forged The Quran,
45. We would have punished him immediately,
46. Then We would have cut off his heart artery;
47. And no one of you could have prevented Us from punishing him.
48. Verily, this Quran is surely a Reminder for the pious,
49. And We do know that some of you will belie [it].
50. And it [i.e., The Quran] will truly be a source of regret for disbelievers [on the Day of Judgment].
51. And it [i.e., The Quran] is absolutely true [i.e., the Word of Allah].
52. So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
